How Anxiety Is Holding You Back In Your Life

Everyone has their own fears and experience anxiety once in a while. It’s part of life and normal. But what’s not normal is when that anxiety starts to take over your life and holds you back from doing things you enjoy or going after what you want in life. When anxiety takes a hold of you and controls your life, you feel as if you can’t move forward and often question yourself and your abilities.

Your anxiety tricks you. It makes you believe that they are keeping you safe from the unknown for your own good, but all it’s doing is holding you back from your full potential. Your fears and anxieties tell you lies and making you think they are keeping you safe from danger and harm when in reality, they are simply pushing you down and keeping you from trying something new.

But it’s important to know that there is a vital difference between your fears and anxiety. Fear is an emotional response that your mind creates when there is a threat. But with anxiety, there is no threat. It’s merely your mind’s expectation of any dangers that can happen in a situation.

Basically, anxiety is a result of your mind overthinking a situation, going over all the bad things that can happen and dwelling on them. Then, these negative thoughts start to cause fear and make you want to avoid the situation all together, limiting you from trying new things or going new places – even though you at first thought you’d like it. Now that you’re thinking negatively about everything, you’re allowing your anxiety to take you down a rabbit hole flooded with negative emotions that constantly make you question yourself and every decision you make. You start to doubt yourself and seclude yourself within your own comfort zone, denying any chance to move forward with your life. You’re constantly thinking about all the bad things that can happen if you step outside that comfort zone, thus limiting yourself from reaching goals, meeting new people and generally being happy with life.

All your dreams are now nightmares, as you imagine everything that could go wrong. Your moods shift and you find yourself depressed all the time because of all the negativity your anxiety is causing your mind to believe. You can no longer imagine the wonderful possibilities of life you had before anxiety took over and you find no joy in anything any more. You’re now a shell of the person you used to be, with no goals, dreams or aspirations.

Anxiety robs you of life and the life you want to live. It’s an endless cycle that can swallow you hole, never letting you out if you don’t seek the right kind of help. You have to push through your anxious feeling and thoughts to be able to regain your confidence and joy so that you can go out and life the life you want to lead!
